Source St. Sauveur October 2007

Team: Roland Kring, Robin Sporrer

390 minutes, 104 m

After we had to cancel our plan to dive at Gourneyras, we put the boat on the sound and checked St.Sauveur on Thursday regarding flow and visibility. With about 12 m visibility and zero flow we decided to dive there the next day. Since we had filled the D20 of the Rebreatherframes for the Gourneyras, max depth 105m, decided on a maximum depth of 105m due to the Trimix 13/75 in the D20 Bailouttanks.

We performed the TG itself with 2 magnum gavins and 2 standard gavins each (2 backups). When exceeding a depth of 80m, Aluhecks were of course used. The gas in the backpack was used exclusively as backup gas, and only Stages were used as the primary gas source. We used 80 cft Stages with Trimix 17/60 for the "shallower part" up to 80 m and a Trimix 13/75 for the area beyond 80 m. For decompression, we used proven Stages with Trimix 17/60. For decompression we used proven standard gases in 80 cft stages in the form of oxygen O2, 50/25 and 35/35. Since the TG was carried out with only 5 stages, one heating tank and 2 scooters per man, we dispensed with a setup TG and dropped the oxygen stages at 6 m and the 50/25 and the heating tanks at 21 m in the source pool. After passing the entry restriction, we scooted briskly to 36 m and deposited the 35/35 there and switched to the first trimix stage with the 17/60 at minute 20.

We scooted the further course of the passage in moderate stratification conditions to the first T at about 300 m, placed a cookie and followed the course of the passage straight ahead and after a short time on the trigger reached the extension of the passage profile where the lines reunite after the first T at a second T. After a short time on the trigger we finally reached the restriction at about 400m. In this area, the depth profile of the cave rises from a depth of about 78m to about 50m. It took us 8 minutes to go from 78m to 50m. There is another branching of the line, the line leading upwards leads to an emergence point the other line follows the course of the passage straight ahead in increasing depth. The visibility improved abruptly and now easily reached 30m.

We scooted following the course of the passage at about 75-78 m depth and finally reached the hall at about 600 m. There the line finally ended at a rocky outcrop. We communicated briefly and Roland waited at the end of the line and Robin scootered systematically down the hall looking for the continuation of the passage profile, we had visual contact with each other the whole time so communication was no problem. After about 15 minutes Robin found the continuation of the
After about 15 minutes, Robin found the continuation of the passage in the form of a narrow, restrictive gap that led laterally in the last third of the hall shaft-like into greater depth. Briefly looking in, a torn line end of a thin exploration line from the crevice was connected to the main line to form another T, linearrow on it, another cookie was placed. We then looked for a suitable place to deposit the 17/60 Stages.

After we found a suitable spot without clay banks, they were deposited on the line and we plugged the second carried trimix stage with the 13/75 into the switch block of the rebreather. We slowly dropped down the fissure to a depth of 104 m and inspected and enjoyed the further passage profile that steadily continues to descend, finally leading at about 110 m into another passage that leads to the final shaft. This was currently dived to about 190 m by Rick Stanton and Dr. Jerome Meynie. We lingered at the depth for a few more minutes until, unfortunately, due to the MOD we had reached, we began our retreat.

At minute 135 we reached the 36m point and changed to our first deco floor 35/35. The further deco, which was uneventful, we had calculated with GFlow 10% and GFhigh 140%. When we finished the 6 m oxygen deco, it was unfortunately already dark again. After we relaxed a little, Stefan and Markus already cleared the scooters and stages to the car. Thanks for that guys.
